Sequential, the company founded by synthesizer pioneer Dave Smith, has just released a new synthesizer that looks likely to set the new standard for analog poly synths: the Prophet Rev2. Building on the legacy of Sequential’s legendary Prophet 5 and Prophet VS synths, the Prophet Rev2 is a 61-key analog synthesizer that combines classic and modern sound with an innovative design and a powerful sound engine.
The Prophet Rev2's sound engine is based on two discrete VCOs per voice, each with sawtooth, triangle, and pulse wave outputs. The filter section features a multi-mode resonant filter with 2-pole and 4-pole modes, and there's also a dedicated LFO for filter modulation. The VCA section features a VCA with adjustable gain and pan, and there's also a built-in effects processor with reverb, delay, and chorus effects.
The Prophet Rev2's control panel is well-laid out and intuitive to use, with dedicated controls for each of the synthesizer's parameters. The synth also features an onboard sequencer and arpeggiator, and it can be controlled via MIDI or USB
